Biochar: Relatively stable, carbon-rich material produced by heating biomass in an oxygenlimited environment. Assumed to be applied as a soil amendment unless otherwise stated.
Biochar refers to a stable solid rich in carbon that is made from organic waste material or biomass that is partially combusted in the presence of limited oxygen. The qualities that makeup biochar vary depending upon the material from which it is made (feedstocks, i.e., timber slash, corn stalks, manure, etc.) and the temperature at which combustionoccurs.
