Public Consultation Now Open For New CRCF-Compliant Biochar Certification Methodology

  • Carbon Standards, an independent, Switzerland-based standard and registry for nature-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR), has launched a public consultation on its new EU Biochar Carbon Removal Standard (EU BCR).
  • This offering presents a certification methodology for permanent carbon removals from biochar activities, compliant with the EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Regulation (CRCF).
  • Adopted by the European Commission, the CRCF regulation is the first EU-wide voluntary framework for certifying carbon dioxide removals, carbon farming, and CO2 storage in products.
  • With this methodology, Carbon Standards presents project developers with a dedicated CRCF-aligned certification pathway as part of its existing Global Biochar C-Sink Standard.
