Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement is often framed as a marine carbon removal solution.
But its feasibility is not only an ocean question.
In my work, I look at the full chain: where lime is produced, how much energy it requires, where CCS is available, how far ships must travel, and where the ocean can actually absorb CO₂ efficiently.
The key message is simple: the best places for OAE are not just where the ocean chemistry looks favorable, but where the whole system (energy, industry, infrastructure, logistics, and ocean dynamics) works together.
That is the discussion I hope to open at the event: how do we move from theoretical carbon removal potential to real-world feasibility?
