NET-Fuels Symposium: Call for Abstracts open!

On 25 June 2026, the EU-funded NET-Fuels project will host a scientific symposium in Ravenna, Italy, titled:

Biomass-Based Carbon Removal: Pathways to Gigaton-Scale Industrial Transition

The Call for Abstracts is now open! Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit extended abstracts by 31 March 2026.

Further details and the full Call for Abstracts are available here.

The symposium will bring together researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore pathways for scaling biomass-based carbon removal from today’s modest levels to systemic, gigaton-scale deployment, moving beyond debates about whether carbon removal is needed towards how it can be responsibly designed, implemented, and governed in real regional and industrial contexts.

The objective is to support regional policymakers and industries in understanding the risks and opportunities of becoming first movers in the emerging carbon management economy.

The programme is organised around five key questions:

  • Towards multi-gigaton CDR capacities: which transformations are required in the industrial and agri-food value chains?
  • Beyond impact reduction: how do we assess systemic remediation and long-term carbon management liabilities?
  • From carbon-as-a-problem to carbon-as-a-resource: what viable financial models can support the transition to multi-gigaton CDR economies?
  • Governing carbon removal: how can policy and governance enable responsible deployment of gigaton-scale CDR systems in real regional and industrial contexts?
  • From technology to practice: what socio-cultural conditions enable bio-based CDR systems and how do these, in turn, reshape society?

Attendance is free of charge but requires prior registration, which will open in mid-April.
