Microsoft continues its commitment to climate action by partnering with Catona Climate and Trees for the Future to support innovative projects worldwide.
Trees for the Future, established in 1989, has planted 250 million trees globally and now focuses on Africa, recognizing its immense potential for impactful climate action. Tim McLellan, CEO of Trees for the Future, commends Microsoft’s involvement in these groundbreaking projects: “Catona has been instrumental in helping us finance, design, and implement this groundbreaking community-driven project, and I’m thrilled to have a climate leader like Microsoft involved as well”.
Recently, they signed a deal with Neustark to store 27,600 tons of CO2 in waste concrete in Switzerland. They’ve also funded reforestation in the US, biochar projects in Bolivia and Virginia, and direct air capture initiatives in Iceland and Wyoming.
“There is no path to meeting Paris Agreement targets that don’t involve carbon removals,” said Rob Lee, Catona Climate’s chief carbon officer. “Our job is to source, vet, design, finance, monitor, and measure the projects that will allow companies like Microsoft to achieve their climate goals, so we can all look forward to a sustainable future.”
